Welcome to

St Canice’s School

We hope that this website will give you a glimpse into the rich and full life of our wonderful school.
We are delighted that you are interested in getting to know us.

St Canice’s School is a Catholic Integrated, full primary School for boys and girls from years 1 to 8, located in Westport on the West Coast of the South Island. Our school was founded by the Catholic Community of Westport which opened in 1882 and the Sisters of Mercy joined the school in 1894.

The roll at St Canice’s sits on average around 130 and is made up of students from a range of both urban and rural tamariki. We operate 6 modern classrooms, four with the ability for shared learning between rooms and two prefab rooms used for supplementary programmes.

Thank you for your interest in St Canice’s School.
We welcome your inquiry and consideration of our school community as a place for your child’s education.

Leadership & Success

My success should not be bestowed onto me alone, as it was not individual success but success of a collective.
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi, he toa takitini, takimano ke.

Ko te wairua tētahi pou o te whare tapawhā.

Corinthians 12:12-13
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body.

Manaakitanga

Care & Respect

Care for all people both big and small.
Kia manaaki i te tangata rahi, i te tangata iti.

Ephesians 4:32
Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other,
just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

Whanaungatanga

Weave the people together.
Whiria te tangata.

Colossians 3:13-14
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
